-------------------------------------
Bimodem Setup for RBBS-PC
for use with RBatch
-------------------------------------
This documentation is to assist you in the setup of BiModem on
your BBS. It contains a BiModem.Cfg file, so that all you have
to do is a couple of minor edits and you can offer BiModem as
another protocol on your BBS.
Bimodem has its own configuration program and needs to be setup in
order for the protocol to work properly, and also for RBBS to remain
in FULL control of the file transfers. You should unzip Bimodem
files all in one directory, then invoke the Bimodem configuration
program, by typing BICONFIG. A menu will appear with 9 different
sections. I have outlined what I feel to be the necessary setups.
All the configurations talked about below are covered completely
in the Bimodem documentation.
I have included a BIMODEM.CFG file to help you in the setup of the
Bimodem configuration for your BBS. If you use this, you should check
two areas. First, check the TERMINAL OPTIONS for your Modem type and
the hardware flow control (see below for flow control). Second, check
the FILES & PATHS, & make changes to the items in FILES & PATHS that
are already filled in, DO NOT ADD ANY ADDITIONAL ITEMS TO THIS AREA !!!
1. SCREENS & COLORS
- If you are using a CGA screen choose "Y" for Snow otherwise choose "N"
- If Multi-Tasking choose "Y" for use Bios, otherwise "N"
2. KEY DEFINITIONS
- No changes
3. TERMINAL OPTIONS
- Set the baud rate to the speed of your modem, not your locked
comm port rate (Overridden by Bimodem Command Line Option "/B")
- Set comm port used (Overridden by Bimodem Command Line Option "/L")
- Set modem type to "F" unless you are using a USR HST modem
- Set CTS/RTS to "Y" (If using MNP, or if your Modem is talking
to your computer faster than your Modem is
talking over the phone line (locked comm
port), otherwise set this to "N")
- Signal Loss of carrier on Carrier Detect to "Y"
- Signal Loss of carrier on Data Set Ready to "N"
4. GENERAL OPTIONS
- Set all options to "N" except for:
- Retain original file date ("Y")
- Allow file names only (no paths) ("Y")
- Do not allow source deletions ("Y")
- Allow remote file requests ("Y")
- Allow local file requests ("Y")
5. LIMITS AND EDITING
- Number of seconds to wait for connect = 40
6. DOWNLOAD DEFAULTS
- All options set to "N"
7. UPLOAD DEFAULTS
- All options set to "N"
8. FILENAMES AND PATHS
-Specify the directory that you wish Bimodem to receive files into.
This directory should also be a RBBS download directory. If
you do not wish UPLOADS to be immediately available to your users,
then make this directory anything you wish....Remember that you have
the ability to run batch files to check uploads, so having them
available for immediate download should not be a problem.
NOTE!!!: This parameter is overridden by the /R on the command
line. See the BiModem batch files that are included in
the RBatch archive for examples.
-Specify the directory that aborted transfers will be put into. This is
for recovery of aborted files, due to dropped carriers, user hitting
ESC key, or whatever....This will allow Bimodem to resume the transfer
of the file aborted at the place where it left off. THIS SHOULD NOT
BE THE SAME DIRECTORY AS THE RECEIVE DIRECTORY!!.
-Delete aborted destination files set to "N" if you want recovery of
files to be in affect.
-Path and filename that contains a list of directories that Bimodem will
check for duplicate uploads (rejections) on the fly. This should be
set because users with registered versions are able to add files to
their upload queue during the transfer, and you want files to be rejected
that are dups.
Ex... c:\rbbs\bidup.lst
contains: c:\rbbs\downloads\
c:\rbbs\uploads\
c:\games\
c:\utils\
d:\graphics\
-Directories or list of directories files are sent from:
---> This parameter should point to an empty directory <---
***************************************************************
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT SETTING!!! If Bimodem has an empty
directory to search for files for downloading, then a user
cannot download a file unless RBBS allows it!!! When RBBS
allows a download, it passes the path/filename to Bimodem
through the [FILE] parameter in PROTO.DEF. Even if the user
is batch downloading the @NODE?WRK file contains path/filename.
***************************************************************
You could probably leave this field blank, but I like to be
sure that Bimodem will looks in this empty directory for files
and not do a search of my drive for files.
-The last two questions are up to the SysOp if he/she wants to log
Bimodem activity...Make sure that DO NOT USE A NAME THAT IS USED
BY BIMODEM IN ANY OTHER ACTIVITY. I recommend using the Bimodem
Log as another way to check your BBS transfers along with your
CALLERS file.
-All other fields in this section should be empty!!!!!
9. PORT SETUP
-Leave as is unless you need a special port setup on your system
10. WRITE SETUP TO DISK !!!!
-If you do not choose this as your final option then all your setups
that you just did are LOST and you will have to do them over again.
